Mondays & Me: The Balancing Act

Hi guys!
Hope you didn't miss me too much.
I've been quite busy as usual and to be very honest, it's getting quite hard to juggle everything.
If any of you have any tips for balancing time, responsibilities and still finding the time to rest... Hola at your girl in the comments section!

Recently, it's been a roller coaster. How I feel is, I love my new job and what I'm doing but there are so many other external factors that play a part in the quality of work I put out while doing what I love. Office drama with a colleague, people getting fired and I'm afraid of losing my own job, having to take on more responsibilities with the ones I was already struggling with and striving to exceed expectations and have a healthy relationship with everyone else around me.

My mum always says this "know yourself no be curse", which simply means it's a blessing to know yourself and I totally agree. People go through life trying to 'find themselves' and are unable to make life decisions because they don't know themselves well enough to know what they want. But when you know yourself and truly understand yourself by yourself and not as a couple in a relationship or in life as a child sibling or parent, it's truly a blessing.

And I know myself. I know that I'm emotional, I can be shy and a little self-conscious sometimes but most of all... I'm a bit of an extremist. When I'm faced with something, I give it my all till I'm fully satisfied with what I've done. In some cases, it could be good and other times not so good. Being like this helps me do a good job to the best of my ability and I can be thorough with one thing but then other things might have to suffer because of that one good job. I hope this makes sense. If you can relate, how do you cope?

So that's two things I need feedback on. How do you cope with balancing responsibilities and finding time to rest and how do you deal with being an extremist (if you're one).

This post is dedicated to a recent commenter who left the comment below;

Initially (being the emotional person I am), I felt bad cuz I already know I'm doing a bad job here and putting my all into BN. But I'm sorry guys, I'll do better. Thanks for always checking back as well!

  1. Oh my! Eki you got me there by posting the comment I left yesterday. I didn't mean to put you in the spotlight like that.

It's just that some of us - I hope I speak for others - like to know that we can follow you here and not have to bounce over to BN to read your posts, as much as we totally love what you and the rest of the BN team are doing on that platform.

But this is your space and we - your readers - gather here to enjoy your posts, which are about you, your style and the wonderful experiences you share.

BN is great but its coverage is a lot more diverse and a bit impersonal too. Society weddings, politics, economy, suicide bombings, military operations, fashion events, lifestyle, crime, employment, it's a Spanish omelette if you see what I mean.

How shall I put it? The difference between TheChameleonBlogger and BN is the diff. btw a niche perfumier around 1er arrondissement or Rue des Francs-Bourgeois Paris and a big department store.

I like that quote of your mom's that you shared: "know yourself no be curse". She is so right.

To her wise words I would add another bit of parental advice. This one from Polonius to his son Laertes in Shakespeare's Hamlet: "To thine own self be true." Know thyself, be true to yourself.

Before I wax too deep though, today's picture makes me long for childhood dancing in the garden singing ringa-ringa-roses. If it's your smile or the flowers that are having that effect on me je ne sais pas.

Back to the point, I see you as a designer engaged by LVMH, who has still got to maintain her own eponymous label. It's tough but some do it quite well. Juggling two balls in the air is never easy. But you are a genius, right? You are doing a fantastic job.

Sorry to hear about the office drama. Handle it with style and grace. Some people have no class and will hate no matter what you do. I don't mean that in a snobbish way. Don't change who you are to accommodate everyone. Remember, to thine own self be true.

You are doing a superb job, and I wish you all the best Eki. You're an asset to BN so banish any thoughts of being let go of. But if Uche P. makes that decision for whatever reason, the stars will align to take you and TheChameleonBlogger brand further.

You're beautiful and delicate in and out.

  2. I wish I could get tips on how to balance everything I have going on in life. What I think though is prioritizing.Which is more important and which I can get away with not working too hard on and maybe leaving for another day.
Secondly I wish you will look into more beauty bloggers living here in Nigeria for your BN posts as we work pretty hard on our content as well.

    1. Hey, thanks for leaving this comment.

Most content creators don't send in their work so we aren't aware of everyone out there (I should do a PSA for that).

And sometimes the quality of the content put out there doesn't match the BN brand (which is very important) and I cannot control that aspect. Hope you understand.

I'll check your videos out. Thanks again!

  3. It's tough to balance but I TRY, more like STRUGGLE to balance it all. For example, last week I did not blog at all because I was facing my desk at cosmopolitan but this week I want to aim for balance...we will get there, it's just time and a lot of time management.

    See as you fine!

  4. Welcome back Eki!I missed you on here. My 9-5 as PR & content creator at Sleek Nigeria doesn't always give me time for my blog, but to keep up with my blog, I brainstorm over the weekend,go to work as early as 7pm on the days I want to post on the blog, then use 2-3hours to put up a post before my main work starts. Its not easy tho! But another secret is I also get content from my 9-5 for my blog.As I manage the online, media and Social media, so you can always direct some of your post on BN to your blog, especially ur travel and style post.
